Dr. Dougherty has been working in dentistry since 1988. He enjoys the art and science of his profession, and is always excited about sharing his knowledge and experience with his patients. Dr. Dougherty genuinely likes being a dentist, and is dedicated to the health and happiness of everybody he treats.
Education
- Undergraduate degree - Mount Saint Mary's College
- Doctor of Dental Surgery degree - Georgetown University Dental School
Dr. Dougherty continues to take courses in continuing education, particularly in the areas of cosmetic dentistry and implant dentistry. He believes there is always room for improvement, and working in a profession that is constantly changing, it's important to him that he stays up-to-date on the latest technologies and treatments so that he can always offer his patients the best dental care possible.
Professional Memberships
Dr. Dougherty has maintained his memberships with the Northern Virginia Dental Society, Virginia Dental Association, and the American College of Dentists. He served as president of the Northern Virginia Dental Society, and in 2007, he was honored with Fellowship in the American College of Dentists.
American Dental Association (ADA)
The ADA is the professional association of dentists committed to the public's oral health, ethics, science and professional advancement.
American College of Dentists (ACD)
The American College of Dentists (ACD) is the oldest national honorary organization for dentists. Its members have exemplified excellence through outstanding leadership and exceptional contributions to dentistry and society. The American College of Dentists is nonprofit and apolitical, and has long been regarded as the "conscience of dentistry."

Northern Virginia Dental Society
The mission of the Northern Virginia Dental Society is to represent and serve the members of our society and the public by fostering quality oral health care through continuing education, open communication, and legislation.
International College of Oral Implantologists
The International Congress of Oral Implantologists (ICOI) was founded in 1972. Devoted to providing implant education to the entire dental team to better serve its patients, the ICOI is not only the world's largest dental implant organization, but it is also the world's largest provider of continuing dental implant education.
Outside of the Practice
In his spare time, Dr. Dougherty enjoys golf, racquetball, hiking, boating and spending time with his family. He lives in Arlington with his wife, Tracey, and his children, Brett, Olivia, and Matthew.
